A trip to the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve is the ideal way to recharge and rejuvenate after busy city life. Not much beats being out in the bush, even if it’s just for a quick weekend escape. We’re put together a two day itinerary for Kings Camp so you know what to expect on your next Timbavati safari experience.
Day One
1pm: Arrive at Kings Camp
There are flights directly from Cape Town and Johannesburg to Hoedspruit that land before 2pm. A friendly face from the Seasons in Africa transfer team will meet you at the airport, and within an hour you’ll be safely through the Timbavati Gates. If you’re lucky, you may even spot some game on the way! Enjoy a welcome drink in the cool reception lounge at Kings Camp, before being shown to your luxurious suite.
1:30pm: Lunch
Sit down to a scrumptious lunch overlooking the Timbavati bushveld. The blissful silence will ease you into relaxation mode before you know it.
4pm: Afternoon Game Drive
Join your guides and trackers in the library for a cup of tea or coffee before your afternoon game drive. Make sure you pack some warm clothes for after dark, as the temperature is likely to drop. If you’re unsure, take a look at our safari packing list here. Sip a G&T and snack on South African favourites like biltong, nuts and dried fruits while you watch the sun set over the expansive landscape.
8pm: Boma dinner
Feast on delectable food and fine wine under the starry night sky. With only the sound of the crackling fire and the bush beyond, it’s an experience you won’t easily forget.
Day Two
5:30am: Morning Game Drive
Rise with the sun and enjoy a warm cup of tea or coffee before setting out on your first morning game drive. Wildlife is often more active before the heat of the day, so it’s prime time for some of the rarer sightings. A highlight of the morning game drives is also the hot chocolate and Amarula stop overlooking a spectacular waterbed.
9am: Bush Breakfast
Enjoy a hearty breakfast surrounded by Timbavati fauna and flora with a scrumptious bush breakfast. Relax under the shade of an ancient Jackalberry tree on the banks of the Sharalumi sand riverbed and feel at one with the bush. Take a leisurely walk back to the camp with your guides and trackers for a safari at a different pace.
11am: Massage at the Timbavati spa
The perfect accent to a weekend in the tranquil Timbavati is a visit to the bush spa. Indulge in an array of body, skin and beauty treatments, or enjoy a revitalizing massage in the cool treatment room or your own personal suite.
1:30pm: Lunch
Enjoy a light, healthy lunch to the relaxing sound of bush. The friendly Kings Camp staff will help you feel right at home.
4pm: Afternoon Game Drive
Pack those layers and get ready for your afternoon G&T out in the bush. The experienced trackers and guides will keep you entertained with their endless knowledge and expertise, not to mention some incredible wildlife.
8pm: Elegant Dining Room Dinner
End the day with an exquisite fine dining feast. The atmospheric dining room at Kings Camp is adorned with chandeliers and is the ideal way to spend your last night in this one-of-a-kind location. Enjoy mouth-watering cuisine, good wine and great company. If you’re celebrating a special occasion, a romantic dinner can be organized in the privacy of your own suite.
Day Three
5:30am: Morning Game Drive
Enjoy one last crisp morning out in the bush before you head back home. Soak up the African sunrise and keep your eyes peeled for a few more special sightings.
9am: Breakfast
Having worked up an appetite on your drive, you can now take full advantage of the mouth-watering cold meats, pastry and fruit buffet before tucking into a tasty cooked breakfast and one last view before your departure.
