Ranger Report – January 2018

By Kings Camp Team on January 29, 2018

Wow, time flies…

When you are about to go on a 3 hour game drive, one might think it is a long time but, you’d be surprised by how quickly it goes past. As they say, “time flies when you are having fun”.

It is not only the game drive time that flies by, but also this month. I can’t believe that January 2018 is almost something of the past. Wow.

This month was filled with amazing sightings and we appreciate everything from the smallest living creature to the biggest species in the park.

We had only 11mm’s of rain this month and we can see that the bush is already turning pale and the dam levels are dropping.

My favourite sighting of January 2018 was on the morning of the 27th when I saw members of the wild dog pack – consisting out of 20 individuals – running around, playing “TAG”, running around with a Steenbok’s head and playing in the water – all at the same time.

Personally I’ve never seen Wild Dogs playing in the water like teenage kids. It was amazing – given that I’ve seen Dogs hunting successfully etc.

I am not going to elaborate as the pictures will do the job.

Thank you for everyone who visited Kings Camp this month and we look forward to Anna Tinker’s blog for February and March 2018.

Keep well and stay safe.
