Kings Camp: Africa’s First Vegan Hospitality Certified Safari Lodge

By Kings Camp Team on December 15, 2025

Nestled in the heart of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, Kings Camp is a place where wildlife, luxury, and conscious travel harmoniously meet.

Kings Camp proudly stands as the first lodge in Africa to receive Certification from Vegan Hospitality. This reflects our deep commitment to offering a seamless, elevated experience for vegan travellers from around the world.

For many vegan travellers, a safari holiday can be daunting: uncertainty about meals, limited choices, or the fear of feeling like an afterthought. Kings Camp set out to change that.

We are the only lodge in Africa with a Vegan Hospitality Consultant leading the vision, Hayley and the Kings Camp team has transformed the lodge experience to ensure every detail from food to amenities aligns with a holistic vegan guest experience, far exceeding expectations. Guests living a vegan lifestyle or following plant-based diets can relax, knowing that care, expertise, and understanding are woven into every part of their stay.

From the moment you arrive, everything you encounter is intentionally vegan-friendly:

  • Tailored plant-based meals made fresh daily
  • Vegan snacks on game drives
  • A completely ‘’veganized’’ room
  • Plant-based amenities in your suite
  • Vegan and cruelty free spa products
  • Staff trained across all departments in vegan service and awareness

Food is one of the most memorable parts of any safari, which is why our kitchen team has made plant-based cuisine an integral part of the Kings Camp experience. Guests enjoy beautifully presented, innovative meals that stand alongside our traditional menu offering variety for everyone while giving vegan guests an equal level of culinary delight. Meals may include a traditional South African potjie, made with Jackfruit or a breakfast bush omelette made from chickpea flour.

We love seeing guests (vegan and non-vegan alike!) try these dishes and discover plant-based meals they truly enjoy.

We understand that a vegan safari is more than what’s on the plate. It’s about the feeling of being seen, valued, and understood as a guest.

At Kings Camp, every team member receives vegan awareness and service training, ensuring that your entire stay from housekeeping to spa, from reception to your field guide is aligned with your lifestyle.

We also offer the option of arranging a vegan field guide, ensuring that every moment of your adventure is in harmony with your values. (And yes—it has been promised that the guide won’t eat all the vegan droewors at sundowners!)

In this video, Hayley walks you through our vegan safari philosophy, our menu evolution, and how we ensure a seamless, joyful experience for every vegan guest.
